Christmas season is here at your fingertips and you’re just done teeth whitening process from your Makati Dentist, what’s the next thing to do? Maintain those pearly white teeth! How? It is Christmas time and there are lots of foods on the table, I want to eat and eat and eat!

Okay, relax. I have here 4 foods you should avoid this season to maintain that pearly whiter teeth and be ready for the selfie and groupie!

Candy Canes

Everybody loves candy cane or also known as peppermint stick. It is a cane-shaped candy associated with Christmastide, as well as Saint Nicholas Day. It is traditionally white with red stripes and peppermint flavored but is also made in variety of tastes, flavors and colors.

Leave this sweet hanging on the tree! While the candy is on your mouth, they coat your teeth with high level of sugar which bacteria will feed into, and produce acid, that increases the risk of cavities and erodes tooth’s enamel. The enamel serves as a protective layer and you will want these to keep as intact as possible.

Caramel Treats and foodies

Caramel is so good, sticky and sweet! The sad thing is that it is worse for your teeth! When caramel sticks on your tooth enamel for long time, it has more time to cause tooth decay and may cause yellowish of teeth.

Here is the thing. One piece of caramel contains 39 calories and the entire package contains 271 calories. A serving of caramel toppings contains 103 calories. These will definitely translate to unhealthy weight gain. You don’t want to have tooth decay, yellowish teeth and large waistline this Christmas season right?

Sugary Baked Goodies

This is a tough one, really a though decision to make but think of your teeth. Sugary bake foods and goodies have high amounts of sugar, which is not good for your teeth. Small pieces of these starchy treats can also get caught and stocked between your teeth and sit there for a very long time. If you do indulge in these sweetie treats, brush and floss right away!

Sugary and Carbonated Drinks

Think and think and think before pouring a glass or sipping a cup of hot cocoa for Christmas. These drinks are loaded with lots of sugar, leading to higher risk of tooth decay. Instead of hot choco, you can rather sip a cup of hot green or black tea or a glass of milk. Tea helps kill harmful bacteria in the mouth, while milk contains calcium o help your teeth stay healthy.

Carbonated drinks have lots of sugar in it that will also cause tooth decay. It is advisable to just drink water.

Have a merry Christmas not just for you but also for your teeth! White Christmas folks!
